Error in truck scales: types and methods of prevention

         We all know that it is impossible to determine with absolute accuracy any physical quantity, including body weight. Car scales, accordingly, also allow a certain error. If you think about it, it turns out that

a number of factors can affect the result, starting from the correct setting of the scales and ending with the air temperature. Therefore, the error of automobile scales exists constantly. It is easy to determine: the simple algebraic difference between the result shown by the weighing equipment and the actual weight of the cargo is the error of the weighing equipment. The magnitude of the error is determined in different ways. For example, absolute weighing error is an error defined in the same units as the measured value (for example, kilograms). There is also another way to determine the error of the result: in percentage. The error established in this way is called relative. The first
method differs in that it is difficult to determine the accuracy of the scales with its help. Therefore, it is best to calculate the error with which car scales measure weight in
percentages.

There are two types of error: systematic and random.

Systematic error of automobile scales

         Constant in sign or magnitude, the systematic error of automobile scales is included in each weighing result, regardless of the number of repeated weighings of the same load. Such an error in car scales can occur as a
result of improper assembly and installation of weighing equipment, inaccurate adjustment of the mass of the weights, temperature fluctuations at which weighing was carried out on car scales, etc. All these actions can be prevented and eliminated when using car scales. Thus, the systematic error
of car scales can be easily excluded. But this does not mean that the measurement results will be absolutely accurate.

Random error

         As we can see from the name, this type of error varies randomly even when weighing the same load. Unfortunately, these errors cannot be completely excluded from the mass measurement results. However, the obtained result can be clarified somewhat; mathematical statistics and the theory of probability will come to the rescue.

 How to reduce the errors of automobile scales

         Systematic errors due to improper installation of car scales or unstable air temperature can be prevented even before the weighing begins. For example, it is worth considering that even the best scales will not be able to more or less accurately weigh the load if the air temperature fluctuations in the weighing room are more than 1 ° C.

         Errors arising in the process of weighing are eliminated by means of substitution, opposition, compensation.
